Needs List - updated January 1, 2004

We are always in need of the following supplies.
Let us know what you have and we will try to find someone in the USA who is
coming to visit and can bring the items with them. If not, we will ask you to send
them to our Florida office below, or bring them when you visit. Or, you might want to contribute funds so that we can buy these items directly.

Clinic Needs:

Note: We suggest stretching your money by buying these things at dollar stores and discount stores.

a. firstbeatdoppler.jpgFetal Heart Monitor (Doppler)- this is the one item we need the most, but we haven't been able to afford. Prices, with needed accessories, range from around $800 to $1,200. An example of one of these units is here. http://www.med-worldwide.com/product6124.html

b. Suction Pump - We also need this unit. Prices are vx2.jpgaround $650 to $800. Example at: http://www.med-worldwide.com/page18.html

c. Four of those electronic thermometers. Not for ears. Just the $10 ones that are plastic, with a little LCD readout, and have a little metal tip. You can  find these at Walgreens, CVS, etc. Wal-Mart, too.

d. Glucometer test strips for Accucheck device.  These are not cheap, but we

e. could use two boxes. Avail at Walgreens, Eckerd, WalMart. If you do get them, save the receipt, tape receipt to box.

f. Decongestant for babies. We need lots and lots of this.

g. Pain reliever drops for babies. Acetominophen (Tylenol) We can use 40 of these.

h. Albuterol Nebulizer Treatment. These are most likely prescription, but you can check. They come in packs of 24, I think. Small plastic “vials” that have the name

i. Albuterol Sulfate Inhalation Solutions .083%  2.5 mg/3 ml

j. We could use four of those plastic ‘jars’ that dispense “anti-bacterial” wipes. We use them a lot to wipe down things at the clinc. They have at WalMart for $3 or $4 each. They are made by Clorox, or Lysol and many no-name brands, too. Check at dollar stores and buy no-name brands.

k. Dental supplies if you happen to have access to any of these. Dental anesthesia, teeth pulling instruments, cold treatment disinfectant (for disinfecting instruments)

l. Two tiny little mag lites. Very bright, small flashlights with white light for examinations. I saw them at Walmart, and other places.

m. One rechargeable battery flashlight. We would keep it at the clinic for emergencies. I think these are $12 at WalMart

n. Any and all sorts of school supplies: Dollar Store has these:  crayons, child scissors, glue sticks, white Elmer’s glue, packs of colored construction paper, colored markers (cheap ones come in sets of 12), larger markers for teachers to use to make signs and posters, tape in dispensers. All sorts of things - we use to give to schools and children with no resources.

o. Bottles of waterless hand cleaner. Plain, not with fragrance. We have some dispensers, so the refill bottles would do great

p. Baby formula in powder. We really need this.

We can accept short-dated medicines and, in some cases, out-of-date medicines. Out-of-date meds must
be brought down in luggage and if Guatemalan customs checks the dates, they will seize expired meds.

Please email Gregory at JGG@Hands-of-Hope.com and ask if we can use specific
items if you aren't sure. If you have recently expired meds, email Gregory for suggestions.

>> ALSO NEEDED:
New medical equipment for general primary care, and
   for minor surgery.
*  We need oxygen tent ($290), regulator ($135),
tank ($165). We've received the hospital beds and pulse oximeter we needed!
Eye care equipment, inc. lensometer and auto-refractor  We are looking
to get these, used, from eye care professionals. We can arrange shipping.
    (Approximate prices in US dollars)

You can also make a donation and specify that you want to for these things,
and we will make sure to use the funds for equipment and send you a photo.
If you want to make this a special fundraising project for your work, school,
worship center or similar, let me know and I will print up a little flyer that
    you can modify.

* Dental equipment - we want to have a fully-equipped setup to do dental work.
There is NO access to dental care in our villages. We have already paid for
semi-portable dental equipment we need. We are now looking to raise the
final $900 to outfit the dental care room; specify "Dental Care" if you are
making a donation specifically for this.

*Financial donations are always needed and very much appreciated.
See our Make a Donation page for details.  Thank you!
