Our History

Hands of Hope (which is Manos de Esperanza, in Spanish) started out in 1998 operating a mobile medical clinic to the rural  poor in Guatemala. 

  We converted a small school bus into a fully-equipped doctor's office so we could take medical care where it's needed the most.

We're a small non-profit
organization founded ( and originally funded) by the Anita and Gregory Giagnocavo Family. We (Anita, Gregory, Michael, Daniel, Alan and Rachel) moved to Guatemala in 1998.

Our Goals
We want to help the rural poor of Guatemala improve their lives. For us, that means, providing medical care and medicine to those who are sick and do not have access to health care.

The Villages We Serve


At the beginning we attended to the needs of people in six villages.

 However, we have now decided to concentrate our time and resources to a particular area of three mountain villages. Now our medical clinic is built in the middle of the three villages. Now that the villagers know we are here to stay, we have gained their trust and we are now able to help them even more. Our clinic is located in San Rafael, which is between two other needy villages, Santa Marta and San José Yalu.
